Iguana Park is located in the historic center of Guayaquil, a short walk from our Airbnb and known for the large population of these lizards. The park was built in 1868, and was called Plaza de la Estrella (or Star Square) because of a huge eight point star it had.
In 1889, an equestrian monument to Simon Bolivar was built and the park was renamed as Plaza Bolivar (Bolivar Square). Later the philanthropist Manuel Seminario made an important donation to renovate the park, at which point it was renamed to honor its benefactor.
